Frequently Asked Questions

Municipal Regional Counties were created, in 1979, by the Quebec government under the “Loi sur l’aménagement et l’urbanisme” The goal was to guarantee a harmonious and coherent development of the MRC’s territory. Its primary mandate was to layout a well-structured land development scheme that out-lined the authorized uses of the land. Areas were defined by urbanization perimeters, such as agricultural and agroforestry areas, and zones for recreational activities, etc. upon which the local municipalities subsequently based their urbanization plans on these recommendations.
